Yesterday, car manufacturer Audi launched a video campaign (courtesy of advertising agency Tribal DDB) to promote their new Audi A7 Sportback model. The idea is to recreate the vibes that Audi engineers felt when designing the car from a blank sheet of paper. For this purpose, Audi asked graffiti artist Steve Locatelli to spray-paint their new model on a 36 square meter billboard. The work takes two consecutive days and is the subject of a continuous live-stream, which can not only be viewed on the campaign site but is also embedded in banner commercials that are shown simultaneously on many major news-sites.
For the set up and management of the live-stream, Tribal DDB contacted Rambla. On site, we installed an Axis IP camera which records the video images, encodes them into an H.264 video stream and broadcasts this stream to a dedicated Rambla server. At the CDN level, a load-balancer steers all end-user requests toward a pool of streaming servers, to which new servers can be added on the fly. This allows us to ensure the reliability of the live-stream, while easily handling the peak loads that typically come with a banner campaign.
